FAQS.

HOW CAN WE HELP YOU?

Learn more about our history, lifestyle and how we grow our food. If you have any questions about our products, our events, or everything that is going on at Okie Farm and Hatchery, take a look at our list of frequently asked questions. Everything you want to know about Okie Farm and Hatchery is right here. However, if you still have questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

SEXING

Not all of our poultry can be sexed at hatching. We do offer a variety of birds that can be sexed as male (cockerels) or female (pullets) at hatching. This gives the customer a better choice in what quantity of each sex they desire without having to risk getting an undesired amount of a certain sexed chick. The chicks offered as sexed are specified on each breed page. All chicks can be purchased as straight run (unsexed/as hatched) for a reduced price. We cannot guarantee a certain number of male or female chicks in a straight run order. We do guarantee 90% accuracy on all sexed poultry. If you receive birds that are incorrectly sexed, we will either replace your birds, or credit your account. This guarantee is for birds offered as specific sexes only. Contact us at XXX-XXX-XXXX or customerservice@okiehatchery.com to report a claim.

POULTRY PURCHASE

Okie Hatchery offers chicks and some hatching eggs on our website for purchase. All orders must be placed through our website in order to guarantee the breed and number of chicks desired. On-site purchases are not offered at this time since all orders are filled by appointment. Since hatching numbers are determined by number of orders, most chicks are sold before hatching, therefore the hatchery is not open to the public for off-the-street purchases.  Additional chicks, consumable eggs and other merchandise may be purchased during your schedule pick-up time.

PICK-UP/DELIVERY

At this time, Okie Hatchery is only offering on-farm pick-up. We are not delivering chicks or eggs through postal service. We hope to offer this service in the near future. Local delivery arrangements may be requested, for an additional charge, under certain circumstances and quantities. Chicks not picked-up during scheduled appointment will incur an additional handling charge of $1.00/ chick or will be returned to the flock without a refund to the customer. If an appointment cannot be met or needs to be rescheduled, contact us immediately to make arrangements. The additional handling fee may be charged for alternative arrangements.

PASTURE RAISED POULTRY

This is a lifestyle that is a more intensive operation than other traditional poultry operations. We feel this is the most healthy and natural way to raise poultry. This is why we have chosen this method to ensure we raise the best poultry we can.  The process we use at Okie Farm & Hatchery is a multi-step process to ensure an economical and duplicatable process of raising our birds. This saves time and is less stressful for the birds for feeding and collecting eggs.

RAISING LAYING HENS

Okie Farm & Hatchery is a multi-acre farm that has quality pasture and fresh water available for raising quality chickens. Our breeds are separated into mobile coops that are moved to fresh pasture several times per week, if not daily. This is important to ensure the birds are on fresh grass and that they are not walking in their own excrement. Okie Farm & Hatchery has several off-farm coop locations for raising additional breeds of poultry to ensure biosecurity and access to quality pasture. All pasture used for raising our poultry is certified as herbicide and pesticide free. If it isn’t in nature, then we don’t add it to our pastures.

HATCHING
CHICKENS

(DAY 0-21)

With our state-of-the-art incubators and hatchers, we are able to accomplish a higher hatch rate of about 80%. This ensures that we can provide the required quantities of healthy birds to meet our customer demands. The eggs are rotated in an automatic turner and incubate at 99.5-100.3 degrees F depending on the breed.

BROODING
PROCESS

(ONE TO TWO DAYS OLD)

Once the chicks are hatched, they are moved to a warm and secure brooder to get acclimated to their new environment. Food and water are provided for the chicks to help them get off to a strong start. The chicks will remain in the brooder until time to be sorted and boxed for filled orders.

NEW
HOMES

Our chicks love to go to new homes to be loved and cared for. Our high-quality birds are given the best start possible to ensure they grow to be happy, healthy poultry. We also have available everything you may need to care for your chicks until they are feathered and ready to roam your yard or run. See our website or our store when you pick up your chicks.

PICK-UP SCHEDULE AND DELIVERY

Okie Farm & Hatchery hatches eggs on a set schedule to ensure chicks are ready for pick-up on Friday or Saturday each week. Chicks must be picked up at the Hatchery on your scheduled day. At this time, Okie Hatchery does not offer shipping or delivery of baby chicks. If you are interested in a delivery option and are willing to accept conditions, then contact Okie Farm & Hatchery to discuss options that may be available.
